Looking for a few styles that are straight off the Fashion Week runway? Try these looks out for a trendy Fall/Winter shape in 2009-2010.
1. Relaxed Trousers
Wide-legged trousers are the next best thing to harem styles we’ve been seeing on the runway. Try a pair with a looser fit that flares out from the hips, and then pair them with sumptuous footwear. Go wild!
Aim for wider trousers in a substantial fabric that hides lumps and bumps, from dark denim to tweed.
2. High Heels
Heavy heels are the best way to start adding trendy height. By choosing the correct width to your shoes (like W, for example), your foot will more comfortably “adjust” to a higher heel. Most stable are knee-high boots in a thick leather, which support the ankle best, and least supportive are wedges and stilettos. Try a peep-toe pump with a stacked heel for comfort– my favorite! They can also help to balance out thicker ankles and calves.
3. Nude Colors
Nude is a great choice, and a friendly one when you choose to wear it underneath a couple of other layers. Push the envelope and try it a lovely lace bustier in cream or white under a sweet cami.
By choosing a color instead of a silhouette, you give yourself a lot of leeway to find something that fits. While many of us who are 4X might not choose a solid light-colored dress, we might like a chiffon layering cami or a lace-trimmed tank. A touch of on-trend color goes a long way!
4. African Inspiration
Dashikis, block prints, and colorful tribal prints are something we can easily mix into our wardrobes. Try a tunic top to pair with jeans, a fun skirt and heels, or a cute tote bag as an early nod to Fall/Winter trends.
Wild prints might be intimidating, but they can really “work” if you simply select the right proportion. Try a sequined shrug, for example, or a waist-tie African-inspired tunic.
5. Color Blocking
Geometrics and graphic prints are welcome additions to our wardrobes, and easily worn as a decorative top. My favorite place to shop for these color-blocked pieces right now is eShakti, because they have an entire section dedicated to the style. It doesn’t get much easier than that!
6. Eco-Friendly
Surprising to… no one, eco-friendly pieces are still storming the market and keeping us green. My favorite trend will hopefully develop into more style-conscious selections that are available in denim and cotton, and in a rainbow of colors.
